Watch: Nelly Furtado Releases Homemade Music Video For Big Hoops

Nelly Furtado has released an alternative music video for her new single Big Hoops (Bigger the Better). We got to see her original video in May and today we have a brand new “homemade” video for Big Hoops which Nelly filmed in a parking lot on Sunset Boulevard in L.A. during shoots for her album [...]

From the first moment that I learned that Ridley Scott was releasing a new sci-fi film, I was immediately excited by the prospect of being wowed by another brilliant film. The promo trailers that we have seen over the last few months for Prometheus looked promising so I was really looking forward to seeing the film for myself. Last night, David and I ventured out to see Prometheus and, I’m sorry to say, it was not a film that I could really love. Scott does an amazing job with the direction but the writing left MUCH to be desired. Prometheus was co-written by Lost creator Damon Lindelof and therein lies the problem.

Firstly, I really must stress that Prometheus is a beautiful film to watch. Ridley Scott‘s vision of the future is, as usual, really wonderful to behold … even the bad parts, Scott manages to make the fantasy world of the future look like art. BUT, a film is made up of more than just how it looks. From the start, the story and plot of Prometheus felt weak and it just kept getting worse as the film unfolded (and the film’s weaknesses had Lindelof written all over them). What really bothered me from the start was how poorly fleshed out the characters are. This film features a collection of SCIENTISTS who practice the absolute worst science ever. Upon landing on an alien planet, they just all decide to take their helmets off. Sure, why not. Then they start touching things that they have traveled billions of miles to study without any concern about how they might alter or destroy the artifacts they came to study. THEN when presented with a new snakelike life form, they decide to just reach out and touch it … pet it, as if it were a stray kitten. I mean, yes, this may sound petty but I could not for the life of me reconcile that we are to believe that any scientists would travel to the other side of the universe and then act like a bunch of idiots. If a film can’t impress me with such important details then how can I be expected to suspend belief about other things? The story overall is not really solid or cohesive. We are left to make huge extrapolations in an attempt to … well, I’m not sure what. This movie felt like it was trying to conjure up big, larger than life questions but, at least for me, it only served to dump a heaping pile of stuff on the screen and then end. There were things that I liked, particularly the allusions to other Ridley Scott films (if you know what I’m getting at) and I felt the last 30 seconds were the best part of the whole film. So while I did not love the film, I can’t say that I hated it either.

Here’s a note to file away, if you are ever running from a massive and round ship that is rolling toward you … don’t run IN FRONT OF IT because you could get smashed. Try running to the left or to the right and let it roll past you. I just wanted to put that out there.

Despite my disappointment, David and I did have fun last night:

Today, I have a few errands to do but it should be a pretty fun day. I hope YOU are having a great Saturday!

Satyamev Jayate The New Face of CSR

There's just something about newly printed, full color custom vinyl banners. They are most likely printed in the brightest of colors. Because they are made from vinyl, the printing is longer-lasting than other print materials or methods. This alone enables your message to be seen for longer by more people than your average custom banner design.

Amanda Bynes Is Hanging With Mister Cooper On The Ridiculist

For the Silver Fox, this is like shooting fish in a barrel!

Who knew when a little bundle of love was born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, TN that she'd one day become the Queen of Soul??

...AND! AND!

She'd also become an honorary graduate from Princeton University with a doctorate!

It's true! Aretha Franklin was one of the six people to receive an honorary degree from the Ivy League university.

Stephen Oxman, the university's orator and trustee, presented the honor with great enthusiasm:

"With her singular Amazing Grace, she continues to traverse musical bridges over troubled water, and by reminding us to think, do right and call on her, the Queen of Soul will forever command the world's R-E-S-P-E-C-T."

WERK. IT. GURL.

We're so proud of her. With as much as she knows about music and the industry, she definitely deserves a doctorate from the college, that's for sure!

These will go great with the ones she received from Berklee College of Music and Yale University! Ha!

Bristol Palin BOMBS! New Show TANKS In The Ratings!!!

Sorry gurl!
Practically NO ONE watched Bristol Palin's new reality series, Bristol Palin: Life’s A Tripp!
The show, which debuted on Lifetime Tuesday night, only managed to scrape up 726,000 total viewers.
You know what might have hurt it? Airing the show in the SAME timeslot at MTV's Teen Moms! Not so smart, television [...]

As one of the most sparkling queens of country music, Carrie Underwood has a good chunk of her fan-base living in the bible-belt.

So when she decided to publicly support gay marriage, she endured some of the most fiery backlash we've ever seen!

It's funny too. Most of the people condemning Carrie used religion in their reasoning, yet it was their fiery feedback that roared with hate.

After being called a "disgrace" and being accused of working with the devil, Carrie finally responded to all of their hell in a statement, saying:

"I was asked a difficult question in the last five minutes of an interview and I answered it the best way I knew how, and after that I do what I do and I love making music and I generally try to stay out of any kind of controversy.

The role-model word is really scary to me, because no matter what happens in your life, something you do, wear, say, sing, whatever—somebody somewhere is probably not going to like it too well.

I just really try hard to do what I do and try to be nice to people and make great music and if people think they can look up to that, that's wonderful. If not, that's OK too."

So classy!

She definitely understands love one another, that's for sure!

We're proud of you, gurl. Stay strong and don't back down! A little controversy means you've stood up for something you believe in.

And standing up for gay marriage doesn't harm anyone or hinder civil rights, so even better! Ha!

Kathie Lee Gifford Asks Martin Short About His Dead Wife VIDEO

Have you seen the embarrassing video of Kathie Lee Gifford asking Martin Short about his dead wife? It is simply humiliating and annoying. Martin’s wife Nancy Dolman died from ovarian cancer back in 2010. For the love of everything holy, didn’t she do any research? What an amateur mistake. Gifford asked Martin what the secret to his marriage is, saying, “And you and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business, how many years now for you guys?” Short, was clearly shocked, but played it off not to embarrass the talk show host saying, “We [have been] married 36 years. “But you’re still, like, in love.” “Madly in love” He was very graceful about it, I am not so sure I could have let it slide. But I guess what are you going to do in such an awkward situation? They went on to talk about Madagascar 3, Martin’s latest film, but during the commercial it seemed Martin informed Kathy of her mistake and she did apologize on air as well. We have the video posted below. You almost can’t tell that there was a mistake Martin played it off so well. Kathy also took to [...]

Perfect Pitch Course to Develop Young Musicians

We all know that relative pitch is defined as knowing the intervals between notes or the distance from one note to the other. On the other hand, perfect pitch is the ability of hearing the exact tones without a reference point, or without the help of any musical instrument. Relative pitch, as oppose to perfect pitch can be easier developed with lessons.

After the sci-fi three-quel finally knocked The Avengers off of its box office thrown last weekend, it appears that Snow White and the Huntsman is set to take the number one spot this weekend, as it's already made an impressive $20.3 million in one day of its release in 3,772 theaters across the country, and is projected to have garnered $55 million by Sunday!

As it also opened in 45 other countries yesterday, it's also made $39.3 million overseas alone!

The Sounds of the City

As a music listener, something you may have noticed when you're listening to lyrics, is that insanely specific lyrics tend to capture your attention far more than vague lyrics. Sometimes as songwriters, we tend to shy away from getting too specific, because we feel it'll start to become unrelatable. We start to think that we need to keep things vague, so that anyone can understand what we're saying. It's counterintuitive to realize that writing very specific lyrics is more relatable than writing generic lyrics.

According to various reports circulating the web, The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actress was allegedly paid millions of dollars for an Indecent Proposal-type deal with Chinese politician Bo Xilai and others between 2004-2007!

But now, she and her publicist are not only speaking out to deny it all, but they want an apology from the website on which the report originated!

Her rep explains:

"We read this outrageous report in the Apple Daily. It sent stone-cold chills down our spines and has left us with a feeling of deep sadness. Friends have advised us to release a short statement and not take this seriously. The more you argue, the more you will stir up. It would be better to step aside until people lose interest and the lies disappear. The innocent will always be innocent. We just want to help her get rid of this disturbance and seek justice. Then she will be able to shoot her films in peace and quiet and present you, her fans, with more and better films in return."

Aww! It sounds like she is really taking this to heart!

Don't worry, gurl! We have no idea if it's true, but if it's not, we're sure this will all fizzle away very soon!

Last night David and I met up with our friends Gray and Jeff for a double dinner date at Tortilla Republic in West Hollywood, CA and had ourselves an amazingly delicious time. Since we’ve been home from Todos Santos, Mexico, David and I have stayed away from Mexican food because we fear that nothing that we eat here will come close to measuring up to the delicious food we experienced in Mexico … but we couldn’t stay away forever. I’m happy to say that the food at Tortilla Republic was great … but the company was even better.

It has been many weeks since we got to hang out with Gray and Jeff (we hadn’t seen them since we all went to The Magic Castle back in March) so we were long overdue for a hang sesh. We love those guys … it’ll be so fun seeing them get married in September :) Yes, they are wedding #7 of our 8 weddings this year. While we hung out at the restaurant for a while, we decided to call it an early night.

After far too many days of exhaustion, I think I’m finally ready to get moving again. On the advice of David and quite a few of you Pink readers, I decided to take the day yesterday to rest up and recuperate before I get to running again. I know it seems like I may have been pushing myself too hard over the past few months with my new running hobby but honestly, I’ve been really smart about my training. I did come down with something in NYC last week so that’s why I’ve been so wiped all week long. I’m feeling better today. I’d say I’m at 90% so I’m ready to head out for a run again. I’m gonna see how long/far I can go … I have a feeling today’s run is going to be a good one.

Happy Saturday, Happy Weekend! Have fun, y’all!!

Courtney Love Poses With BFF Gwyneth Paltrow, Gives Her Artwork

A few weeks ago we heard about Courtney Love’s transition into the world of art after she held her first exhibition in Chelsea, New York. The collection, called ‘She’s Not Even That Pretty‘ included a bunch of drawings all with the theme of a blond woman in a seemingly chaotic mess. Most people, even those [...]

Yesterday was still very much a quiet day for me … ever since I got home from NYC Monday night, I’ve felt pretty cruddy. My throat has been sore, I’ve been really phlegmy and totally exhausted. I haven’t had the energy to go for a run since I did my 6 miles in Central Park on Monday so I’m itching to get out there again (I didn’t even make it out to see my concert last night). I thought I’d be up for a run yesterday but I just couldn’t do it. Today’s the day, tho, I’m gonna try and run for as long as possible to keep my weekly milage up. All of this exhausted downtime has afforded me the opportunity to read, to, so I’m happy to report that I’m just over halfway thru A Clash of Kings, book 2 of George R.R. Martin‘s series A Song of Ice and Fire.

As you may know, season of of the HBO series Game of Thrones is based on A Clash of Kings so I’ve been really enjoying watching the eps and reading the book. I’ve noticed that there are quite a few differences from the book than the TV series … much more so than was different in season one. I started rewatching the eps from season two last night to help me keep the book in context — which is very helpful — but I’m really looking forward to moving on to the subsequent books and finishing them before season 3 of Game of Thrones debuts on HBO next year.

But, as much as I’ve been enjoying all the reading, I’m kinda anxious to get back to the running. If I’m going to run 2 half marathons and a full marathon later this year, I have to keep up my training. I should be breaking the 9 mile mark soon. Tonight, David and I have a double date with our friends Gray and Jeff so that will be fun. I hope all y’all are having a great Friday and will have a happy weekend ahead!
